If you're enthralled by the idea of a Mustang developing over 800 ponies but can't get onto the buyer list for the Mustang GTD, Shelby American has revealed its first upgrade package for the S650 Ford Mustang: the 2024 Shelby Super Snake. It's had a comprehensive overhaul from front to back, with unique body parts, wheels, and performance upgrades to set it apart from the regular Mustang GT.
With a Whipple supercharger applied, the Shelby Super Snake produces in excess of 830 hp, making it the most powerful Super Snake to date and a fair bit more potent than even the GTD. But if you like your Super Snake with a less venomous disposition, the tuning package can be ordered without boost. For those who prioritize handling and the joy of the drive, this may be a great option, but if you ask us, a Shelby should always have bragging rights over a regular 'Stang. Then again, the other changes are enough to make it clear this isn't a regular S650.
Numerous Upgrades Beneath The Skin
To handle the increased performance, Shelby has fitted an upgraded radiator and heat exchanger, sturdier half shafts, a new suspension system, new brake rotors, and lightweight 20-inch forged magnesium alloy wheels with unnamed performance tires.

Driveshaft troubleshooting for the novice.These are fastened with extended wheel studs to make wheel changes quicker, while a Borla exhaust has also been fitted. The 2024 Super Snake is available with either an automatic or manual transmission, and those who opt for the stick get a few extras, including a short-throw shifter and a one-piece driveshaft. A short shifter is a simple mod, but it truly transforms the driving experience, and if you're going for the 480-hp version, that's even more important.
Lightweight Construction And Aero Upgrades
The 2024 Shelby Super Snake is available as either a coupe or convertible; the hardtop gets a carbon fiber rear wing, while the convertible does without it. This model gets a unique roll bar, though, with an integrated light bar. Both variants get a new hood, now made of aluminum, with pins. The hood is vented with carbon fiber extractors in the hood, and the composite material is used to construct the widebody vented fenders. With wider fenders, a new fascia is required, and this gets a new lower splitter and carbon wickers.
New carbon fiber rocker panel extensions and wickers, a trunk with an integrated ducktail spoiler, and a carbon diffuser give the car more menace, while (legally) tinted windows and Super Snake stripes and badges complete the look. Inside, the seats have been reupholstered and embroidered with the Shelby logo, while new floor mats, Cobra puddle lights, a Shelby shifter ball (for manual variants), sill plates, dash and engine plaques, and engine covers ensure you see the Shelby logo anywhere you look.
Pricing And Availability
Shelby American has not revealed pricing but says that just 250 examples will be produced for the US market, while other regions may be able to access the upgrade package through selected dealers. Production begins mid-summer, but if you'd rather wait for a Shelby-branded Mustang with more Ford flavor, a teaser released by Ford Performance yesterday hinted at another exciting special edition for 2025. Given the Shelby GT350 turns 60 next year, it may be worth leaving a space in your garage for whatever Dearborn is cooking up.
