Lamborghini LB744 Driving Modes Animation

For 60 years, Automobili Lamborghini has been synonymous with cutting-edge innovation. Just a few weeks ahead of launching the first hybrid plug-in V12 High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV), the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand unveils a technical solution that is unique in today’s automotive landscape. The LB744 is based on a new aeronautics-inspired chassis, the ‘monofuselage’. As well as a monocoque made entirely of multi-technology carbon fiber, it features a front structure in Forged Composites; a special material made of short carbon fibers soaked in resin. This technology was patented and used by Lamborghini in its first structural applications as far back as 2008. The monofuselage represents a significant step forward from the Aventador in terms of torsional stiffness, lightweight qualities and driving dynamics. What’s more, the LB744 is the first super sports car to be fitted with a 100% carbon fiber front structure: carbon fiber is also used for the front cone structures to ensure a level of energy absorption that is significantly higher when compared to a traditional metal structure – double that of the Aventador Ultimae’s aluminium front frame - combined with a substantial reduction in weight.

Jeep Cherokee rides into the automotive sunset

After making a name for itself nearly a half-century ago, the Jeep Cherokee, which has endured off and on through a number of iterations, has been chopped from the lineup. But the name will live on. 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 Track driving

Dodge is introducing the quickest, fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world, the 1,025-horsepower 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. The brand’s seventh and final “Last Call” special-edition model was unveiled this evening at the Dodge Last Call Powered by Roadkill Nights Vegas performance festival at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With its 1,025-horsepower (at 6,500 rpm), 945 lb.-ft. (at 4,200 rpm) production HEMI® engine, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 reaches 60 mph in a blazing 1.66 seconds and features the highest G-force acceleration of any production car at 2.004 gs. The Demon 170 can also reach 900 horsepower and 810 lb.-ft. of torque on E10 fuel. A Dodge special-edition vehicle like none other, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the quickest vehicle ever produced in the brand’s 100-plus-year history. The Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the first factory production car to run the quarter-mile under nine seconds with a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)-certified 8.91-second ET at 151.17 mph. On the drag strip, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 receives an NHRA violation letter for running a sub-nine-second quarter-mile without a safety cage or parachute, following in the footsteps of the original Demon, which was also banned from NHRA quarter miles. Black keys are also banned from the Challenger SRT Demon 170, as the fastest Dodge Challenger ever will be delivered only with red key fobs. The 2018 Challenger SRT Demon featured a black key fob to limit horsepower and a red key fob to unlock full output; the new Demon unleashes horsepower levels determined not by a key, but by sensing the percentage of ethanol fuel content.

2024 Mazda CX-90 Preview

First-Ever Mazda CX-90 – the largest and most luxurious SUV ever to lead the Mazda range – is now available to order, ahead of its arrival in Australia from August. In accordance with Mazda’s rightsizing approach to engine design, both the e-Skyactiv G (turbocharged, 3.3-litre petrol G50e) and e-Skyactiv D (turbocharged, 3.3-litre diesel D50e) inline-sixes available in the First-Ever Mazda CX-90 benefit from Mazda’s M Hybrid Boost 48V mild hybrid technology, which supports the engine at lower speeds while delivering enhanced environmental performance by using regenerative braking to replenish the onboard battery. Increasing the speed range at which lean burn (lean combustion: high-efficiency combustion with minimal fuel consumption) is possible has contributed to the e-Skyactiv D power unit’s ability to achieve 5.4L/100 km – a class-leading fuel consumption figure, along with CO2 emissions of 143g/km. This pursuit of efficiency is not at the expense of performance, however, with impressive outputs of 187 kW available at 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 550 Nm from 1,500 – 2,400 rpm. Mazda’s engineers have also designed the D50e engine to use surplus air to improve combustion, resulting in a more agile acceleration response, lower Nitrous oxide emissions at high rpm and output, and better thermal efficiency due to a greater lean burn speed range.

Why it matters: EVs are the future, but getting to that future will be expensive. Driving the news: Ford revealed Thursday that it expects to lose $3 billion in its electric vehicle division in 2023, despite early sales success for the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E EVs. But Ford expects to turn an overall profit before...

The extraordinary undertaking continuous - Rolls Royce Spectre approaches two million kilometre mark in latest phase of rigorous global testing

When the experience and data collected from South Africa has been fully analysed, and relevant actions and measures have been implemented, Spectre’s testing programme will be around 80% complete as it sets off on the final ratification phase. This consists of taking the motor car through a condensed programme of ‘all-season’ testing, including return visits to the Arctic extremes of Arjeplog and the more temperate conditions of the Côte d'Azur. The final 500,000 kilometres of Spectre testing will focus on Lifestyle Analysis. This proprietary testing process will see Spectre tested in super-luxury situations and use-cases specific to Rolls-Royce clients, to ensure Spectre performs as required in the centre of global megacities, around new and historical luxury destinations, and in other settings commensurate with owners’ needs, habits and lifestyles. Ahead of the first cars being delivered to clients, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023, Spectre has undergone exhaustive trials designed to replicate almost 400 years of normal use, in some of the most extreme conditions on Earth. In total, the car will cover more than 2.5 million kilometres – the equivalent of circumnavigating the globe 62 times.

Fourth generation of the Porsche Cayenne also to be built in Bratislava

Porsche AG is laying the groundwork for the further electrification of its model lines: The sports car manufacturer has decided to manufacture the future all-electric Cayenne at Volkswagen Slovakia’s multi-brand location in Bratislava. After the Taycan (since 2019), the Macan (in 2024) and the 718 (middle of the decade), the Cayenne will become the sports car manufacturer’s fourth model line with an all-electric powertrain. Porsche has already announced a further all-electric SUV above the Cayenne for the second half of the decade. That model will be produced at the Porsche factory in Leipzig. The Cayenne has been stamping its mark on the sporty SUV segment for over 20 years. Its success remains undimmed. With 95,604 delivered units in its anniversary year of 2022, the Cayenne posted the highest demand among all Porsche model lines. Since production began in 2002, the Cayenne has been closely associated with Bratislava. In the early days, the painted bodies were sent from there to Leipzig. With the third generation of the SUV, production moved entirely to Bratislava in 2017. Since then, the site has produced models with combustion engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
